Dr Clara Tuck Meng Soo is an Australian public health advocate and a Canberra-based General Practitioner known for her dedication to the LGBTIQ+ community. Passionate about providing accessible healthcare, Dr Soo provides medical treatment to culturally and linguistically diverse patients, as well as people with drug dependency and other marginalised groups and patients, including those living with HIV/AIDS. Born in Malaysia, Dr Soo completed her medical education at UK’s Cambridge University and Kings College Hospital in London, and since she moved to Australia in 1989, she has demonstrated a passion and commitment to patients to help them achieve the best health outcomes. Since 1996, the treatment and management of HIV-positive patients has been one of Dr Soo’s major interests in public health. Dr Soo is also one of the pioneers in the provision of care to the transgender community in Canberra and started her own journey to gender transition in 2017. Dr Soo now leads two general practices in Canberra, both of which proudly train the next generation of medical leaders. In 2016, Dr Soo was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for her services as a medical practitioner to the community of the Australian Capital Territory. This was returned in 2021 in protest against the upgrade of Margaret Court’s Companion of the Order of Australia.
